Taming of the Beast

I've had to mediate my leavetaking and separation between two warring factions: my new [Zoe] and old employer [Belzebub]. I think it would be easier if they didn't know each other socially and in business, but at their level the circle is so small that everyone knows everyone else in NY.

So, the past 2 days have been spent with me going in for meetings to wrap things up, pass the baton, finalize reports, and to help my former boss manage her anger and anxiety. Anger w/me for leaving, anger with HR for letting me get away (so she says), anger w/the dept. OM for not managing things better, the list goes on. So after many phone calls between HR, Zoe and Belzebub, I decided to take over the mediation process from HR, as they were getting know where and instead I was being drawn into the fray as it descended into a playground scene of "she's mine".

By friday afternoon I had negotiated a tentative settlement. In the process I tamed Belzebub's inner beast; Zoe is quite happy and impressed with my negotiation skills and that Belzebub finally agreed to something. Although I am not entirely happy about all the terms, it does however come out to my advantage because I don't get to start or have to go to work on my birthday and I have off the few days preceding it. I get ALL 3 days OFF WITH PAY. Wooohooo! Not bad negotiation if you ask me.

The downside, I have to go back to my old job for 2 weeks to close out reports needed for 2nd quarter closings, organize my unit, review and update the procedures manual I developed and a few things I'm sure Belzebub will come up with last minute prior to my leaving, as if it would stop me from walking out the door.

You can tell both of these women are lawyers. This morning I forwarded to them the written out summary of our agreement and they each sent it back to me with request for ammendments. Man, if I didn't have litigators in my family this sort of stuff would piss me off. Since I do, I know its par for the course!!!

I'm now off to spend a wonderful late afternoon in the sun courtesy of my coworker who's leaving NY. Then my parent's group will be taking me out to The Poet's Cafe, where there will be live poetry readings, so we could celebrate my birthday. I'm just blown away by this spontaneous thoughtful act! What a nice surprise. It's just so cool!!! Alright, I'm over it. Enough gushing.
