It's all in the perspective

Today was a day I don't care to repeat any time soon. Thank you very much!

It started off like any other Monday. Everything went almost according to schedule until I got home and opened the mailbox to find a letter from:

- the Internal Revenue Service
- my employer
- two of my attorney's - one of them working on my divorce - Sigh!
- mortgage company
- Empire Blue Cross

It turns out they all had issues with paperwork I had fax/mailed to them over a month ago documents which I was required to file. My reaction: NOW you write to me? As I made the obligatory phone calls to straighten everything out I was told in every instance to make piddly minor modifications and refile all the paperwork I submitted in the first place. Now mind you, I had just returned from waiting over an hour on line at the post office. OK deep breath.... I say to myself, I'll get everything done tomorrow. Let's stay positive.
So off I go with my reinstated positive attitude to do the next few errands on my list: pick up laundry, dry cleaning and my son. I get home and begin unpacking and putting everything away and begin discovering problems: stains on blouses that were not there, a silk blouse ruined, and 2 of my favorite cashmere sweaters shrunken... we're talking baby huey 3/4 sleeve with tummy showing. Maybe, just maybe if I hold onto them for a year or two they will fit my son when he's 7. Unfortunately in NYC, there's very little compensation for the dry cleaner's errors.

By now, my urge to curse had moved from a gut level to my throat. Still, there's homework to get through and dinner to prepare. Being that I'm on a loosing streak and throwing nothing but craps I'm very careful preparing dinner my son's dinner. Because I'm a vegetarian and my son's a carnivore I usually prepare all my dinners on the weekend and prepare his dinner when we get home.

Well, luckily his dinner came out wonderful, While mine... let's just say it was inedible. As I began to prepare my peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Firemen come to our door and asked us to evacuate because they suspected a gas leak in our building.

Remaining calm so my son would too, I simply grab our coats, my purse and head out the door. Trying not to be a witness to any destruction, should one occur, I head to the Chinese restaurant down the block and order a few appetizers to keep us fed and my son busy. luckily I always keep crayons and a small notebook in my bag in case we're ever stuck somewhere.

Finally, shortly before 8:00 we we're able to return to our apartments. I thought to myself, as bad as things were, I'm glad and grateful that everything turned out OK. So I said a prayer of thanks. Needless to say I won't be attempting to do any upgrades or installs tonight. I'm rescheduling life for Wednesday, I need a day or so to recover from the stress and for calm to be restored to my nerves.

I hope you all had a better day!

6 My favorite 'incident' during my divorce was when they sent me paperwork asking me to fill it out on our children. We didn't have children. It took my 8 weeks to clear that one up. Keep your chin up... it worked out for me (just took some time).
